Why Choose Nepal for Your Next Tour
Though Nepal is a small country in Asia tucked in the high Himalayas, you can find a wide range of travel opportunities in Nepal’s diverse landscapes. From the world’s tallest mountain, Mt. Everest, to attracting trekkers from around the globe to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu and beyond, Nepal is the perfect destination for typical holidaymakers and high mountain explorers.
The diverse landscape of Nepal, from the Himalayas to the Terai plains, and the modern and cultural Kathmandu City offer not only a nice opportunity to trek in the mountains but also to trace wildlife with a Chitwan jungle safari tour or Kathmandu sightseeing tour, all in a single journey.
Eight of the world's 14 mountains over 8,000 meters are in Nepal, including the world’s highest, Mt. Everest (8,848 m). This calls for an adventure trek like the Everest Base Camp trek or Annapurna Base Camp if you are looking for a moderate-grade trek.
Peak climbing in Nepal is another option to explore these Himalayas. Better known as ‘trekking peaks’ with an average height of 6,000 meters, like Island Peak Climbing.
The Terai plains in Nepal are home to subtropical jungles where you can go for an exciting jungle safari; the most popular and easiest to reach is at Chitwan National Park. It’s one of the finest wildlife reserves in South Asia and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The famous wildlife spotting is the Asian one-horned rhinoceros, including deer, monkeys, crocodiles, different species of birds, and, if luck favors, the Royal Bengal Tiger.
You can visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu City, which are all located in closer proximity, with most of them taking less than 30 minutes to visit. Cultural Sightseeing in Kathmandu takes you to such sites, which consist of old temples, royal palaces, and Buddhist stupas.
The UNESCO sites located closer to each other inside Kathmandu are Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swyambhunath (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and Patan Durbar Square. Out of the city, which takes about a 40-minute drive, are Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Changunarayan Temple.

No "Tourist Tax": There is no daily mandatory tourist tax, such as USD 100 per person per night in Bhutan, for travelling in Nepal. This allows you to have more Nepal vacation ideas financially to explore the country on a budget. It can be anything from trekking in Nepal to cultural sightseeing.
Luxury for Less: If you plan to stay in luxury hotels in Kathmandu or other places like Pokhara or Chitwan, it is less compared to staying at a high-end hotel in Europe or the United States. These 5-star hotels are also equally nice and have state-of-the-art facilities.
Some popular trekking regions like Everest have luxury lodges where you will find comfortable and good accommodation. On the Everest View Luxury trek, you trek along with spectacular views and stay in luxury.

Unique Experiences (Only in Nepal)
Nepal gives you a unique experience not found elsewhere, be it while trekking, on a religious tour, on an Everest flight, on helicopter sightseeing tours, or on a jungle & wildlife safari.
Teahouse Culture
A teahouse is a comfortable mountain lodge run by local families while you trek in Nepal. That’s where you will stay on trek trails, which are warm and welcoming. Besides, you eat homegrown and cooked local food, sit by the fire at the end of your trek, and share your experiences with fellow trekkers.
This experience is more personal and real compared to luxury hotels in places like Switzerland.
The "Living Goddess"
‘Kumari’ is considered a living goddess living in the old palace in Kathmandu. She is a young girl worshipped as a goddess, and you might get a glimpse of her appearing at the window in the Kathmandu Durbar Square. It’s a rare cultural experience you won’t find anywhere else.
Breakfast at 3,880m
What an experience it will be, having your breakfast observing the highest mountain in the world, Mt. Everest. This is possible only in Nepal, where you take a short helicopter flight to Hotel Everest View (3880m) in the Everest region and enjoy breakfast with a view of Mt. Everest.
It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and still affordable compared to similar luxury adventures in other countries.

Pokhara
The most beautiful lakeside city in Nepal, Pokhara, is a natural wonder with tranquil lakes, deep gorges, and spectacular Himalayan views on top of it. You can go boating at Phewa Lake, rafting in the Seti River, or enjoy adventure activities like paragliding.
Chitwan
After a tiring Himalayan trek, a jungle safari at Chitwan National Park is a refreshing activity. Home to the Asian one-horned rhinoceros, the Royal Bengal tiger, and many other wild animals, mammals, and bird species, it’s one of South Asia's finest wildlife reserves.
Lumbini
The center of Buddhism, Lumbini, is the birthplace of Lord Buddha. It’s the most sacred pilgrimage site of all Buddhists in the world; the place has both spiritual and historical importance and is located in the Terai plains of Nepal.
Kathmandu Valley: A Living Museum of Spirituality
For the Nepal culture and nature tour, the Kathmandu Valley, unlike any other place on earth, is a living museum within a small area. Its ancient past is reflected in many temples, Buddhist stupas, royal courtyards, and palaces.
Almost at every street corner in Kathmandu, you will stumble upon a temple. You can feel the city’s energy and its ancient traditions and culture wherever you go.
7 UNESCO Sites in One Valley
Seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites are located in the Kathmandu Valley, which is amazing in itself, and it also means you can cover most of them in a day.
The "Big Three" Durbar Squares
There are three Durbar Squares: Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur. In fact, these are the ancient cities inside the valley. 'Durbar,' meaning 'royal palace,' so they are squares with beautiful courtyards, temples, pagodas, and palaces that date back to the 17th century.
The Icons
Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) and Boudhanath are the iconic Buddhist stupas. Swayambhunath sits atop a hill in the northwestern part of Kathmandu with a panoramic view. Boudhanath is one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world, located on the northeastern side.
Holy Hindu Temple

Almost at every street corner in Kathmandu, you will stumble upon a temple. You can feel the city’s energy and its ancient traditions and culture wherever you go.
Sensory & Spiritual Insight
To truly experience and feel Kathmandu, you need to use all your senses, and looking alone is not enough.
The Sights: You will encounter amazing sites in Kathmandu involving colour and movement. Bright prayer flags and monks walking in deep crimson robes dominate the temples and stupas.
The Sounds: The Kathmandu traffic may confuse you at first, but the sound of bells in the temple, the chanting of monks in Buddhist stupas, and especially priests performing Aarti (fire prayer) in the evening at Pashupatinath is a sight to behold and listen to.
The Smells: The burning incense at the temples and the scent of fresh spices at local markets mixed with street food aroma will guide your nose through the culture and tradition deeply rooted in the Kathmandu Valley for ages.
The Local Lifestyle: Beyond the Temples
Experience the real Kathmandu by stepping off the main tourist trail.
Newari Hospitality
The cuisine of the Newari community is amazing (be prepared to handle some spicy foods, though not all food is spicy). Small eateries in Kathmandu and especially in the Patan area serve such refreshments. Try Yomari (sweet rice dumplings), Choila (spiced & grilled buffalo meat), and Chatamari ("Newari Pizza and the choices are many.
Craftsmanship
Watching skilled woodcarvers and thangka painters at work is seeing and believing the city’s art at its best. These skills have been handed down for generations, with their hands carefully creating intricate designs.
Daily Rhythm
You can join the locals at a morning kora in Boudhanath rather than keeping yourself busy at tourist locations like Thamel. Many locals perform morning prayers, giving you an authentic experience that is far more powerful than the visitors' rush in midday.
Pokhara: City of Lakes & Mountains
Pokhara is a peaceful and scenic destination where adventure meets relaxation.
If Kathmandu’s rush is not your thing, Pokhara’s tranquil beauty will certainly smite you. Be it the still waters of Phewa Lake or the majestic view of Mt. Fishtail, seen at almost every location from the city, you can relax by the lakeside or lose yourself at the upbeat lakeside.
Adventure and peace are synonymous with Pokhara, and it is one of the best places to visit in Nepal.
Phewa Lake
Located at the center of Pokhara City is Phewa Lake. A gentle boat ride will take you to the centrally located island temple in the lake, and the reflection of Mt. Fishtail on Phewa Lake’s crystal water is a spectacular sight.
Many restaurants and pubs are located on Phewa Lake’s shore, better known as the lakeside. Visit in the evening when the place becomes lively or in the morning to sip a tea/coffee with a beautiful mountain view.
Sunrise View
Sarangkot (1600m), about a 20-minute drive uphill from Pokhara, is the most popular Himalayan viewpoint. Witness Mt. Fishtail and Mt. Annapurna up close and personal from Sarangkot, and with the rising sun, the peaks' colours change from snowy white to golden brown.
Adventure Activities
Unsurprisingly, in Pokhara, being the natural wonder, you can try out quite a number of adventure activities such as paragliding, zip-lining, bungee jumping, rafting, and mountain biking.
Usually, the paragliding start point is Sarangkot, and you fly down, landing at Phewa Lake. Combo packages of paragliding and zip-lining are also available if you are interested in both. You can add up these activities during your sightseeing in Pokhara.
Chitwan Jungle Safari Experience
A jungle safari in Chitwan lets you feel the real sound and heartbeat of the wild.
Wildlife (Rhino, Tiger)
The "Big Three" include the Asian one-horned rhino, the Royal Bengal tiger, and the gharial crocodile. Rhinos are commonly seen, while tigers are rare and require luck. Nepal’s tiger population has reached around 355 nationwide, making sightings more possible than before.
Chitwan is also known for its zero-poaching rhino conservation success.
The best time to visit is March and April, when the short grass improves visibility.
Safari Types
- Jeep Safari: Best for covering large areas quickly
- Canoe Ride: Peaceful river experience with crocodiles
- Jungle Walk: Guided walking safari for close wildlife tracking
- Ethical Elephant Experience: More responsible interaction methods
- Jungle Tower Stay: Unique overnight jungle experience
Pro Tip
If you want your safari to be special, try out Jungle Tower Stay. It’s a night program staying at a tower located in a deep jungle with your nature guide, and meals are taken along with you. It’s a very different kind of experience and adventurous activity.
Lumbini: Birthplace of Buddha
Visiting Lumbini is a peaceful and spiritual journey.
Spiritual Value
Lumbini is one of the four most sacred places in Buddhism worldwide. Maya Devi Temple marks the exact birthplace of Lord Buddha in 623 BC. The Ashoka Pillar provides historical proof of this sacred site. The sacred garden includes Pushkarini Pond and the Bodhi tree, adding to its spiritual importance.
Monasteries
Different Buddhist nations have erected various monasteries and temples in Lumbini to show both peace and diversity, which is known as the ‘Monastic Zone.'
Global Architecture
Exploring the monastic zone is like a small world tour of Buddhist architecture. Walking along just 2 kilometers, you can spot 20 different countries’ monasteries, unique in their design and style, for example.
- German Tara Foundation – bright, colourful murals that catch your eye.
- Chinese Monastery—traditional imperial pagoda style with a strong, bold design.
- Royal Thai Monastery – sparkling white marble, very elegant and calm.
Walking here feels like a world tour of Buddhist architecture with peaceful chants, murals, and meditation spaces.
World Peace Pagoda
A huge white stupa built by Japanese monks, which signifies world peace and harmony. It is located at the northern end of Lumbini. The architecture of the pagoda is simple, with a golden spire in the middle surrounded by a peaceful garden where you can walk quietly.
These monasteries are also active centres for meditation, prayers, and learning Buddhism, and not just for a show. You can spot golden spires, carved wood details, monks’ soft chanting, and vibrant murals everywhere, creating a calm and reflective atmosphere.

Best Time to Explore Nepal
You can visit Nepal round the year, but the best time to visit Nepal is in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) for the most enjoyable Nepal travel experience. During these seasons, the weather will be at its best with clear skies, mountains visible, and chances to witness colourful festivals.
Spring & Autumn
Weather is warm during the day and cool at night, and it’s the perfect time for trekking in the Himalayas, including cultural sightseeing and jungle safaris. Greenery is everywhere with the blooming of flowers, and especially the rhododendron flowers in the hilly regions.
In autumn (September–November), the temperature is not too hot or cold and is pleasant for travelling. The skies are clear, and the most spectacular mountain views can be spotted. Local festivals are celebrated in these months, the biggest being ‘Dasahin’ (equal to Xmas) and 'Tihar,' the festival of lights
Weather Tips
Summer (June – August): These months are primarily the monsoon season, during which heavy rain does not allow for travel or trekking, such as slippery trails, or even causes landslides in the high mountains. This season is the best to avoid trekking.
Winter (December – February): It’s too cold for trekking, but travelling in the lower places like Kathmandu, Pokhara, or Chitwan is suitable. But be prepared to pack along warm clothing.

Reviews
Although my husband has been here for trek many times, Nepal had been a remotest country for me until I came here in October 2008. What made me come here?because my husband had an accident in the mountain and got seriously sick, I had to fly to Kathmandu to meet him in the hospital. Thanks to the devoted care of the doctors and nurses, he got better quickly. At that time I was really moved by the warm hospitality of Nepali people. Since then beauty of Nepal nature and people had stayed in my heart. At last, I came back to Nepal with mybest friend in November 2009, one year after the accident. And we decided to have some short treks in Pokhara, to visit Lumbini for the Buddha’s birthplace and to visit Chitawan for jungle safari. We also visited Nagarkot for the fantastic morning mountain view. We are very much impressed by the scenic beauty of Nepal. We thank mr . Ram Kumar Adhikari for his careful, cheerful escort and kind arrangement for our trip. Ram-san enhanced our experience in Nepal. Beautiful Nepal will stay in our heart forever.
